I had just finished a talk at a local Chamber meeting recently. A business person came up to me and asked me how I had been so lucky as to enjoy the success that my business is encountering.
There really is no secret, I told him. It was just hard work.
Just today I found a great quote that I wish I could have recited:
“Luck is a dividend of sweat. The more you sweat, the luckier you get.”
So true! That said it better than I could have said it and the person who said it lived it so clearly and obviously that they have “lucked” their way to the top. That quote was by Ray Kroc, the founder of McDonalds.
A question I get asked a lot is “What are social sites and can I make money from them?”
Often on the Internet it works like this: someone creates a new way of doing things. A few people try it and like it. More and more of those people get their friends to try it. Soon, it becomes very popular. As it grows in popularity, advertisers get in on the game.
We've seen it with websites…banner ads.
We've seen it with search engines…AdWords and other text-based advertising.
We've seen it with podcasting…there are several ways to market in podcasting.
We've seen it with blogs…AdSense and other marketing methods.
We've seen it with viral video…ifilm.com and nbbc.com put advertising on videos.
So it's no surprise that people are interested in making money from social sites like MySpace.com.
